Job summary

Community Services Group is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to assist adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in residential or community settings. You will support daily living activities, implement individualized programming, and help residents lead self-directed lives under supervision.

The role is full-time, 2nd shift with weekend availability. A two-week paid orientation and mileage reimbursement for training travel are provided at our Mountville,

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, and/or transport individuals to appointments.
• Administers medication and treatment as permitted under regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with individuals in their home, work, or community setting to promote wellbeing.
• Help individuals develop life skills like cooking, housekeeping, money management, and personal hygiene.
• Support individuals’ preferences and ensure their interests are respected.
• Promote community integration and independence through activities and community resources.
• Provide guidance and role modeling to help individuals reach goals and be more independent.
• Complete all required documentation accurately and timely in electronic health records.
• Collaborate with family members, other providers, and agencies; participate in meetings.
• Assist in arranging transportation for medical care and ensure health guidelines are followed.
• Conduct fire drills and manage emergencies during shifts and provide coverage when needed.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a caregiver that supports adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in either a residential or community based setting while maintaining sensitivity to the rights and dignity of the individual. The DSP in a residential setting is responsible for assisting individuals to live a self-directed life, assisting with activities of daily living, implementing individual programming, and responsible for the routine operation of the home. The DSP in a community program is responsible for developing and facilitating individualized programs of functional, social, and daily living skills instruction to promote independence, interdependence, and community integration. This instruction may occur in group situations and/or is individually scheduled, and it can be implemented in the person’s home setting, day services setting, and/or community settings. The DSP reports directly to the Program Supervisor.

This position is a part of our Adult Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Services.

Full-Time schedule-2nd shift with weekend availability needed.

CSG’s Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD/ASD) Services is excited to offer a 2 week paid orientation for this position. Orientation includes the necessary foundational training needed before providing services in the programs and sets you up for a successful career at CSG. Orientation is held in-person at our Mountville, Williamsport, and Bethlehem offices. Mileage reimbursement is provided for orientation related travel.

Wage Information

Base rate of pay $17/hr. with the potential to earn up to $21/hr. depending on location and shift.

Job Description

• Develop relationships where those we support live, work, or in a community setting, in order to promote and ensure their emotional, physical and personal well-being.
• Assist adults in the development of appropriate life skills necessary to reach their highest level of potential including interaction with others, cooking, housekeeping, money management, personal hygiene, and other skills in appropriate settings.
• Support the individuals' preferences and ensure their interests are honored.
• Actively search for opportunities for those you serve to experience life in their homes and communities based on their hobbies and interests utilizing community resources to promote community integration, independence, and Interdependence.
• Help individuals reach their goals to be more independent by offering guidance, instruction, and role modeling.
• Completes all required documentation including electronic health record in an accurate, timely, and professional manner.
• Collaborates and cooperates with involved agencies, family members, and other service providers; participates in meetings and provides relevant information.
• Provides support and assistance to individuals in arranging for medical care when responsible to do so and follow health care recommendations including individuals to follow all dietary guidelines as recommended.
• Conducts fire drills, manages emergency situations during assigned work shifts, and provides coverage in emergency situations.
