Job summary

Akomahmc is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide compassionate, person-centered care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in home, community, and program settings. You will assist with daily living activities and help individuals reach personal goals.

Responsibilities include medication administration under supervision, ISPs implementation, transportation support, and promoting community participation, while maintaining safety and dignity at all times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
• Prior caregiving, human services, or disability support experience is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

DSPs assist with daily living activities, promote independence, ensure health and safety, and help individuals reach their personal goals in home, community, and program settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support individuals with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation
• Administer medications and monitor health under supervision of a nurse or program director
• Implement individual service plans (ISPs) and behavior support plans
• Assist with transportation to medical appointments, social activities, or job sites
• Encourage and support individuals to participate in community life and recreational activities
• Maintain a clean and safe living environment
• Document services provided and report any concerns or incidents in a timely manner
• Communicate effectively with families, coworkers, supervisors, and other support team members
• Advocate for the dignity and rights of individuals served
