Job summary

Alleghany Highlands Community Services in Clifton Forge, Virginia, is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist adults with intellectual disabilities in a congregate setting at our Friendship house. The DSP uses teaching techniques to promote independence and skills acquisition.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Two years of experience in a human service field (preferred).
• Valid Driver's License (required).
• Certification in CPR, basic First Aid, and medication administration (required but can be obtained upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, support, counseling, and training in activities of daily living to individuals in accordance with their service plan.
• Provide assistance and training in personal care.
• Focus on the needs and preferences of the individual; empower and support the individual in defining the direction of their life; and promote self-determination, community involvement and recovery.
• Ensure optimal health and safety of individuals.
• Communicate any changes in status or behavior to all staff providing services to the individual.

The Direct Support Professional, (DSP) provides services to adults with intellectual disabilities in a congregate setting at our Friendship house.
