Position/Title: Direct Support Professional- Residential

Immediate Supervisor: Program Director- Residential

Job Description

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) within the Residential Program will be responsible for assisting adolescents ages 10-17 with Autism and some Intellectual and developmental disabilities in the group home setting. The DSP's primary responsibility is to provide support and assistance to individuals to help them live, work and play as independently as possible. The DSP's role is one of independence and responsibility assisting adolescents ages 10-17 with Autism and some intellectual disabilities live successful lives and contribute to their home and community setting.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Delivers purposeful Age-appropriate activities and supports for individuals.
  • Implements activities, using specified training techniques and interventions, related to but not limited to developing participant social interaction skills, personal hygiene training, motor skills coordination and activities etc.
  • Provides participants with personal care/hygiene support as needed.
  • Provides direct training, supervision, and support to participants during all activities
  • Encourages individuals to participate or partially participate in daily routines and activities.
  • Assist with daily living skills to include meal preparation
  • Administer medication
  • Complete required paperwork, daily log, incident reports, support logs, medication charts, data collections
  • Provide guidance on a range of developmental goals from community participation, household budgeting, exercise, nutrition, and supporting vocational responsibilities.
  • Accompanies assigned participants on group activities/outings and provides transportation in agency vehicles when required.
  • Provide appropriate reinforcement and supports in obtaining desired outcome
  • Maintains inventory of equipment/supplies used and notifies supervisor when ordering is necessary.
  • Provide transportation to recreational activities, doctor's appointments, and employment
  • Completes all documentation for assigned individuals by the end of the assigned shift.
  • Completes all assigned task related to program objectives, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attends all training sessions and staff meeting as required.
  • Assisting individuals with meeting person centered outcomes outlined in their treatment plans
  • Assist with housekeeping and individual clothes preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma and/or GED required
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Medication Administration Certified or will obtain within 60 days of start date and maintains certification throughout employment completing continuing education and recertification requirements as defined by CrissCare Services.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified or will obtain within 15 days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • MANDT certified or will obtain within 20 days of start date and maintains certification throughout employment
Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of basic human physical and psychological needs
  • Knowledge and passionate use of person-centered approach
  • Knowledge of health and safety precautions
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, emotional maturity and patience
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient typing and computer skills
