Job summary

Alternatives, Inc. in Toms River, NJ is seeking a full-time Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support adults with developmental disabilities in the AIM Day Program.

You will work Monday through Friday, 8am–4pm, providing compassionate care and promoting independence in a supportive community setting. Responsibilities include implementing individual behavioral plans, teaching new skills, facilitating community activities, and documenting health and progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Ability to pass background checks and a drug screen.
• Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening and required trainings such as CPR/First Aid.
• Ability to pass and maintain trainings like medication administration.

Responsibilities

• Assist adults with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible.
• Implement individual behavioral plans and teach new skills.
• Encourage community outings and recreational activities.
• Report health and safety concerns and maintain documentation.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP) / CAREGIVER

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, you begin each shift ready to help adults with developmental disabilities live their best lives as independently as possible. You have made it your mission to ensure the comfort and safety of each client.

You assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans. Using effective teaching and mentoring techniques, you teach them new skills and help them achieve goals. Based on each individual's preferences and behavioral plans, you encourage their interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities. You are happy to help them find greater access to the community. You are conscientious about reporting any concerns about their health and safety and keeping documentation accurate and up-to-date.

Some aspects of this job are not easily accomplished but at the end of each shift, knowing your clients are happy makes you feel great about the work you do!

WORK SCHEDULE

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who work at the Abilities In Motion (AIM) Day Program work shifts from Mondays through Fridays from 8am until 4pm. Weekends are not required for AIM Day Program staff.
