Position Summary:Under the supervision of the Residential Supervisor, the DSP is responsible for fostering a natural, family-like atmosphere for the residents, conducive to encouraging growth and improving their quality of life:Position Duties and Responsibilities:The DSP is responsible for:Building the residents’ appreciation for his/her own skills and potential to be a productive and valued member of the family and community.Improving the residents’ ability to cope with problems in a sociable acceptable way.Improving the residents’ ability to relate to adults and peers in a positive way.Implements a broad curriculum aimed at teaching the residents new skills in several areas (i.e. activities of daily living [ADLs], self-care, family living, independent living, academic skills, social skills, pre-vocational and vocational skills, self-control and recreation).Behaves in a manner, which provides appropriate modeling for the residents according to community norms.Under the direction of the Residential Supervisor, assumes the following program and administrative responsibilities:Provides a balanced and appealing diet for the residents such that their personal health, nutritional needs, and prescribed specialized diets are met.Assures that any needed medical or dental treatment for the residents is conducted and documentation of appointments is obtained.Assists residents with dressing and personal hygiene as needed, and advises the Residential Supervisor when there appears to be a need for new or replacement clothing or personal supplies for the residents.Performs clerical work, completes required documentation, and maintains records as required.Ensures that all Therap data collection is completed in required timeframes.Reports maintenance needs for structural, appliance, vehicle(s), or equipment repairs to the Residential Supervisor.Maintains excellent cleanliness and sanitary conditions inside the group home, on the grounds, and inside assigned vehicle(s).Relates to the community and community agencies in a professional manner that promotes and maintains good public/community relations for the group home and the agency as a whole.Assures that all medications (prescription and over-the-counter) are administered to residents as prescribed by a physician. Keeps all medications under lock and key.Documents the administration of medications, as required.Maintains professional, cooperative relations with Durand Administrative and support staff (i.e. Program Specialist, Nurse, BRT, BCBA, Human Resource Personnel, etc.).Provides recreational and community integration opportunities for the residents.Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Residential Supervisor.Must be able to perform proper use of crisis intervention techniques when individuals pose a possible danger or threat to themselves or others.Properly ensure that all timesheets are completed accurately and timely basis.Performs other duties as assigned.Must successfully complete and demonstrate proficiency in all areas of required training.Position Qualifications:Shall have a High School Diploma or GEDDriver’s License valid in the state of NJ and satisfactory driving recordShall be at least 18 years of age.The employee shall cooperate with the licensee and Department of Human Services staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.The employee must submit to a Criminal Background Check, and be determined to be not disqualified by the Department of Human Services prior to working with individuals served.The employee must agree to have their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.All employees hired after 6/15/18 shall submit to drug testing prior to employment.All employees shall submit to drug testing randomly and for cause.Shall complete an application to have their name checked against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).Must submit to a pre-employment physical and be in good health,
