We are looking for a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team! Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are responsible for providing individually-focused compassionate care and assistance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and/or mental health challenges. The DSP will also encourage growth towards independence in activities of daily living, socialization, community involvement, and support in expressing choices.
The ideal candidate operates with a big heart, not only providing personalized and attentive care, but also building genuine relationships with those they serve. You are detail-oriented, creative and committed to creating a healthy environment that meets client needs. Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed to succeed in this role. Prior Direct Support or Home Health Aide experience is a plus.
This is a full time position working 35-40 hours a week.
This position requires the ability to walk at a very fast pace for extended periods of time. The individual supported walks significantly faster than the average walking pace and may move ahead of their support person quickly. Maintaining close proximity and keeping up with the individual is an essential part of this position.
Applicants should be physically capable of walking approximately 2 miles twice a day, at a speed of 20 minutes per mile and maintaining this pace safely. A fast-walking assessment will be conducted as part of the interview/hiring process to ensure applicants can comfortably and safely meet this requirement.
