Job summary

Adirondack Arc is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to assist people receiving services to live a full and meaningful life by providing a wide variety of supports. The DSP encourages, and teaches skills to promote autonomy, community inclusion and provide a safe and healthy environment.

Primary duties include following plans, supporting personal care, assisting with meals, mobility and community participation, documenting behaviors, and responding to routine health needs.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old or have a high school diploma.
• Valid NYS Driver's License; one year of licensed driving experience.
• Effective communication skills; ability to work flexible hours.
• Fundamental computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow individuals' plan of protective oversight or equivalent and document as required.
• Ensure safety and assist with personal care.
• Assist with meals and monitor dietary needs.
• Support participation in community activities and relationships.
• Document behaviors on designated agency forms.
• Attend to routine health-care needs under supervision.
• Perform CPR & First Aid as needed.
• Maintain a safe and clean living environment.

Job description

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for assisting people receiving services to live a full and meaningful life, by providing a wide variety of supports. The DSP encourages, and teaches skills to promote autonomy, community inclusion and provide a safe and healthy environment.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

• Review, understand and follow each persons plan of protective oversight, Individual Service Plan, safeguards, comprehensive functional assessment (CFA), or other service-related documentation or plan and Behavior Support plans
• Ensure peoples safety by following Safeguards or Individual Plan of Protective Oversight
• Support people in their personal care and document as required
• Prepare food for prescribed diets and assist/monitor people while eating
• Reposition people in beds or chairs as needed
• Assist in ambulation and/or transfers with people throughout the day
• Assist people to participate in community activities of their choice and build or enhance relationships
• Document on a designated Agency form (ABC Sheet) persons behaviors as required
• Attend to routine health-care needs of people under supervision of medical personnel
• Assist / perform household activities: cooking, cleaning, housekeeping, laundry, shopping, etc
• Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the people served
• Assist other team members when the opportunity presents itself, when requested by another team member or assist in emergency situations and routine fire drills
• Inspect equipment and environment for malfunction / disrepair
• Communicate questions, concerns or issues to appropriate personnel
• Perform CPR & First Aid as needed
• Performs other duties assigned

• Pay: $20.00 - $24.63 per hour
