Job summary

Horizon House seeks an On-Call Direct Support Professional to join our Developmental Services Division at Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342. You will support adults with developmental disabilities in daily living skills and community integration while maintaining a safe residential environment.

Dental, medical, retirement and time-off benefits are included; on-call shifts may require flexibility and responsiveness in emergencies or inclement weather.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus 2 years MH/IDD experience.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Valid PA driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Computer literacy to document daily activities.

Horizon House, a non-profit organization, has been widely recognized for its services as a provider of community-based behavioral health, intellectual disabled and homeless services in Eastern Pennsylvania and the state of Delaware. Each year, Horizon House provides a continuum of services at over 100 sites to over 4,500 adults with psychiatric or developmental disabilities, drug and alcohol addictions, and/or homelessness. A pioneer in the field of community-based rehabilitation, Horizon House is widely recognized for its innovative approach to the delivery of services in a community setting.

Currently, we are seeking a On- Call Direct Support Professional to work in our Developmental Services Division ( Valleybrook Road | Glen Mills, PA 19342).

Some duties to include:

• To perform a wide variety of tasks and activities that involve encouraging, guiding and training developmentally disabled individuals in developing daily living skills and habits, taking care of their personal needs, assuring community integration, ensuring the health of individuals and maintaining a safe and secure residential environment.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED and at least 2 year’s prior experience in the MH/IDD field or any combination of experience, education or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to perform independently and as a team member.
• Ability to use a computer and document daily activities electronically.
• Required to possess a valid PA driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Scope:

• Requires the ability to lift carry, fold, kneel, reach, stack, stoop and bend which may include direct intervention with participants.
• Requires completion of medication administration, and associated follow-up, through certification by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in medication administration. Medication certification must be maintained.
• Required to report to work during emergencies including inclement weather.
• Tasks and activities performed will depend upon the specific needs and abilities of the participants assigned.
• Possess manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
