Job summary

Focus Behavioral Health, Inc. is urgently hiring compassionate Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support adults with Autism and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Bedford County and surrounding areas.

As a DSP, you'll provide individualized care and support that helps people develop life skills, participate in activities they enjoy, and work toward greater independence. We offer paid training, competitive pay, and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
• Paid training provided to learn the role.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance with daily living activities and personal routines.
• Teach practical skills such as cooking, meal prep, laundry and housekeeping.

• Help individuals practice communication, social interaction and independent living skills.

What You'll Do as a DSP or Caregiver

Our caregivers help individuals navigate everyday life while encouraging independence, confidence, and personal growth. Responsibilities vary according to each individual's needs and support plan.

Providing assistance with daily living activities and personal routines

Teaching practical skills such as cooking, meal preparation, laundry, and housekeeping

Supporting individuals during community outings, recreational activities, and other experiences

Helping individuals practice communication, social interaction, and independent living skills

Encouraging personal choice, self-advocacy, and independence

Working alongside individuals to achieve goals outlined in their support plans

Following health and safety procedures and providing appropriate assistance

Building trusting, professional relationships with the people you support

Promoting dignity, respect, and individual rights in every interaction

Basic Employment Requirements

Candidates must have:

A valid driver's license

Reliable transportation

The ability to successfully complete required criminal background clearances

The ability to provide physical assistance when needed

Physical Requirements

Depending on the needs of the individual receiving services, employees may assist with standing, walking, transferring, and other mobility-related activities. The position requires the ability to lift75 pounds or more when necessary.
