Office for People With Developmental Disabilities prioritizes the health and safety of the statewide population of 128,000 individuals with developmental disabilities. As a Direct Support Assistant, you will help individuals lead richer lives. Under supervision, your responsibilities include:

  • Providing supports and services.
  • Advocating, encouraging, guiding, and teaching individuals to express personal choice.
  • Ensuring community integration.
  • Assisting with personal hygiene care, toileting, dining, dressing, meal preparation, lifts and transfers.
  • Helping individuals participate in games and recreational programs.
  • Coaching and encouraging development of daily living skills.
  • Providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
  • Working with other staff to implement and record care plans.
  • Administering medication in accordance with special instructions.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or Direct Support Professional certificate).
  • A valid New York State driver’s license and ongoing eligibility to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Physical and agility standards met.
