Title: Direct Support Professional
Supervisor: Direct Support Supervisor
Purpose: Under the supervision of the Direct Support Supervisor, the Direct Support Professional is responsible for shift coverage and clinical intervention for clients.
Requirements: Acquire a High School Diploma or GED, and/or one year’s experience in a related field, valid driver’s license, and minimum age of 18 years old.
Responsibilities: The Direct Support Professional is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Pass criminal background, central registry, CARI check, and drug test pre-employment and randomly; complete Physical and PPD at the time of hire.
- Complete basic staff training required by the Division within 90 days of employment.
- Assist in the formulation of ISPs.
- Establish and maintain relationships with families, guardians, case managers, and other interested persons.
- Assist Individuals in the operation of the home, ensuring cleanliness and order.
- Shop for food as designated by the Direct Support Supervisor.
- Assist Individuals with self-help skills, grooming, laundry, and domestic chores.
- Respond to emergency situations as directed by the Direct Support Supervisor.
- Participate in ongoing training on behavior management methods and techniques.
- Assist with medical care, including transportation, prescription pickup, and communication of medical information.
- Assist with meal planning and preparation.
- Be available 24/7 during emergencies.
- Ensure the house is secured at night.
- Provide bedtime training and ensure Individuals are ready for bed.
- Complete household cleaning as directed.
- Record shift happenings and observations in the daily log.
- Manage group home and Individuals' laundry as assigned.
- Monitor Individuals throughout the night and attend to their needs.
- Perform daily medication counts and record administration in accordance with DDD guidelines.
- Wake Individuals at an appropriate morning hour, train and supervise morning routines.
- Review and monitor the implementation of the IHP and its development.
- Administer medication and assist with medication procedures.
- Cooperate with Department of Human Services inspections and inquiries.
- Ensure each Individual is free from physical or mental abuse.
