Job summary

Allegiance Group is seeking a Direct Response Database Developer to build and optimize automated data pipelines for direct response fundraising. You will own data cleansing, transformation, and validation across donor and marketing data, ensuring campaign-ready assets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, Data Management, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years in database development, data processing, or data operations.
  • Experience with direct marketing, fundraising, nonprofit, or data-intensive campaigns.
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL Server or alternatives.

Responsibilities

Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000 / year

Description

The Direct Response Database Developer is a data operations engineer responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing reliable, automated, and AI-enabled data pipelines that support direct response fundraising performance. This role ensures that client donor and marketing data moves accurately from ingestion through campaign execution, reporting, and analysis by managing data cleansing, transformation, mapping, validation, and preparation to create timely, trusted, and campaign-ready data assets.

Working within the Campaign Operations function of Data Solutions, the Direct Response Database Developer partners closely with Data Analysts, client teams, and other stakeholders to translate fundraising and direct marketing requirements into scalable data solutions. The role requires strong SQL and relational database expertise, rigorous attention to data quality, and the ability to build increasingly automated processes that power audience segmentation, personalized direct marketing communications, campaign execution, analytics, and actionable fundraising insight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Data Analysts, client teams, and client stakeholders to understand business requirements, campaign objectives, priorities, and data specifications.
  • Load, cleanse, transform, and summarize client donor and marketing data in accordance with established data processing standards.
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, views, triggers, and other database objects necessary to support campaign operations and data delivery.
  • Customize data mappings, transformations, and business rules based on client requirements and campaign specifications.
  • Develop and execute data ingestion and validation processes to ensure client data is complete, accurate, and available according to established timelines.
  • Prepare and validate data files used for direct marketing communications, audience segmentation, campaign execution, and other client deliverables.
  • Work with complex and large-scale datasets across multiple client environments and data sources.
  • Troubleshoot data processing, database, mapping, and file-related issues and implement appropriate resolutions.
  • Perform quality assurance and validation of data outputs to ensure adherence to client‑approved business rules and internal standards.
  • Participate in peer reviews and desk checks of client deliverables to support data quality and accuracy.
  • Support Data Analysts with data preparation for reporting, analysis, visualization, dashboards, and fundraising insights.
  • Contribute to project planning by identifying data requirements, dependencies, timelines, milestones, and potential delivery risks.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and optimize recurring data processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and turnaround times.
  • Utilize AI and emerging technologies, where appropriate, to improve data processing, quality assurance, troubleshooting, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of data processes, mappings, business rules, and technical solutions.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in database development, data processing, data operations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred experience includes
  • Experience supporting direct marketing, fundraising, nonprofit, agency, or other data-intensive campaign environments.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server or another relational database platform such as MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience developing stored procedures, database triggers, views, queries, and other database objects.
  • Experience with data ingestion, cleansing, transformation, mapping, segmentation, and validation.
  • Experience working with large and complex donor, constituent, customer, or marketing datasets.
  • Experience with reporting and visualization technologies such as Power BI, SSRS, or Tableau.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git, TFVC, SVN, or similar platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, structures, and data processing methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and maintain stored procedures, database triggers, views, queries, and other database objects.
  • Strong knowledge of data ingestion, transformation, mapping, cleansing, validation, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex client‑specific business rules to data processing and campaign execution.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with datasets of varying size, complexity, structure, and quality.
  • Understanding of reporting, analytics, and data visualization requirements.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process automation and workflow optimization.
  • Understanding of modern AI tools and the ability to appropriately leverage them in day-to-day work.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver assignments with minimal guidance.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments of varying complexity.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • Demonstrates initiative, accountability, adaptability, and ownership of assigned work.
