JOB DESCRIPTION
Direct Care Worker
Summary Statement: The Direct Care Worker is a person who, under supervision, provides clients assistance with nutritional and environmental support as an extension of self-directed clients.
Reports to: Home Assist Manager, Home Assist Coordinator
Supervises: N/A
Training Requirements:
- CPR (Not on-line)
- First Aid
- Fingerprint Clearance Card Level I
- Central Registry Clearance
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Successful completion of an approved training program in Attendant Care services, or previous Attendant Care experience (minimum 6 months).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Sufficient education and language ability to speak, read and understand written orders and to write basic reports in English.
- Specific:
- Has a caring attitude.
- Ability to communicate information concerning a client's condition clearly.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds, move intermittently throughout the work day, inclusive of sitting, standing and bending, pushing, pulling or moving objects and clients.
- Ability to relate to and work with the various personality styles, ill, disabled, and elderly.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and serve basic diets.
- Assist with care of teeth and mouth.
- Assist with grooming – care of hair, including shampoo, shaving, the ordinary care of nails, and general skin care.
- Assist with bathing client, in bed, tub or shower.
- Assist client to change positions in bed.
- Assist client in moving from bed to chair, to wheelchair, and in walking.
- Assist client with toileting, eating, and dressing.
- Arrange schedule so that the client follows medical recommendations -such as increased physical activity.
- Report changes in the client's needs and condition to the AL Manager.
- Keep simple records.
- Attend in-service programs.
- Perform incidental household tasks essential to the client's health needs, such as:
- light housekeeping
- straighten bathroom
- making and changing beds
- listing needed supplies
- dusting, vacuuming, and moping
- shopping for client if no other arrangement the rooms used by client. possible.
- dishwashing.
- personal laundry of client if no family member
- straighten kitchen. able or available; this may include ironing.
- straighten bedroom.
- sending linen to laundry.
- Record client care activities daily.
- Participate in case conferences, as indicated
- Prioritize work/care tasks to ensure all duties and client visits are completed as assigned.
- Utilize standard precautions and infection control techniques as necessary.
- Participates in office in-services and meetings as requested by the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- DCW's are not allowed to administer any medications under any circumstances.
