Job summary

Kentucky United Methodist Children’s Homes is seeking a Direct Care Professional to supervise youth, provide nurturing support, and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the treatment team. The role includes facilitating life skills, recreation, and spiritual activities while maintaining safety and high standards of care.

The position requires a high school diploma, 21+ years of age, and at least one year of child-care experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• At least 1 year of child-care experience.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to speak, read and write English.
• Background check including fingerprint checks.
• Pre-employment drug test.
• Vaccinations as required by ORR policies.
• Must be capable of Safe Crisis Management.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision of youth to maintain a safe environment and oversee daily routine.
• Be a welcoming, nurturing presence to encourage and support youth.
• Ensure consistent implementation of client treatment plan in cooperation with treatment team.
• Develop and participate in unit activities such as life skills exercises, recreation activities, cultural education, and spiritual life.
• Ensure first aid and health care is provided for clients as specified by KyUMH policies.
• Perform campus activities such as driving a campus vehicle and transporting clients.
• Record documentation as required and communicate with external stakeholders.
• De-escalate or physically manage children when necessary (training provided).

A Day in the Life of a Direct Care Professional:

• Provide supervision of youth to maintain a safe environment and oversee daily routine.

• Assume responsibility for a variety of campus activities, including but not limited todriving a campus vehicle, transporting clients, clothing or supply shopping.
• Record documentation according to policies and communicate professionally with external stakeholders as needed.
• De-escalating or physically managing children when they are a danger to themselves or others (training will be provided).

For this position, you must:

• Have a High School Diploma
• Must be 21 years of age
• Must have at least 1 year of child-care experience
• Have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• The ability to speak, read and write English
• Pass a background check, including federal and state fingerprint checks
• Pass a drug test pre-employment
• Maintain ORR required vaccinations
• Physically be able to perform Safe Crisis Management
• Be able to complete required trainings and successfully implement and execute all skills
