Qualifications

Job Summary

The Direct Care Specialist serves as a stabilizing presence for at-risk youth, creating

structure, emotional safety, and consistent relational support. This role models daily routines, conflict

resolution, problem-solving, and positive social interaction while fostering a warm, home-like atmospherewith caring gestures, comfort, and dignity.

Direct Care staff embody the posture of a supportive caregiver: steady, compassionate, and appropriatelyfirm. They build meaningful relationships, uphold professionalism, and complete essential administrativeand clinical tasks with accuracy. They inspire hope, teach life skills, reinforce the value of education andhard work, and model respect in every interaction.

Key Responsibilities
Safety & Crisis Readiness
  • Maintain a safety-forward mindset in all interactions and environments.

  • Maintain situational awareness and provide calm authority during conflict.
  • Apply approved protective interventions or physical restraints when necessary and appropriate.
  • Uphold safety protocols and campus procedures with reliability and sound judgment.
Program Implementation
  • Carry out behavior plans, house expectations, and restorative practices.
  • Offer supportive redirection and consistent accountability.
  • Lead or assist with activities, chores, and skill-building moments.
  • Serve as a role model of interpersonal respect, responsibility, and hope.
Documentation & Communication
  • Write accurate shift notes, incident reports, and required documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Training or willingness to be trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) or comparable crisis management models
  • Ability to safely perform approved protective interventions, including physical restraint when necessary, in accordance with TCI standards
  • Physical capability to carry out the essential safety functions of the role, such as supporting youth during crises and assisting with restraint procedures when required. (This is based on job-related safety needs and does not refer to body size, appearance, or any non-essential characteristics.)
  • Age 21+ with a valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent (higher education preferred)
  • Experience with youth, residential care, behavioral health, or similar fields (preferred)
  • Ability to complete CPR, First Aid, medication training, and other required certifications
  • Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in high-stress or crisis moments
  • Physical ability to intervene safely in crisis situations
  • Residential campus setting with direct interaction with youth
  • Evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday availability may be required
  • Fast-paced moments mixed with independent downtime during quiet hours
