Description

The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day financial and accounting operations, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, payroll oversight, banking relationships, operational reporting, and financial process improvement initiatives. This role partners closely with operations and executive leadership to drive profitability, improve efficiencies, and support strategic decision-making. The VP of Finance must possess a strong working knowledge of all accounting functions and be capable of stepping into operational accounting responsibilities when needed. This position will also participate in executive development and succession planning initiatives to prepare for future senior financial leadership responsibilities.

Specific Accountabilities and Authorities
  • Direct and oversee all finance and accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll oversight, and operational accounting functions.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Controller and accounting management team to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations.
  • Partner with leadership to identify opportunities for margin improvement, cost reduction, and labor optimization.
  • Ensure strong internal controls and financial process consistency across all company operations.
  • Manage company cash flow forecasting, working capital performance, and operational liquidity planning.
  • Assist in enterprise financial planning and analysis functions, including long‑range planning, financial modeling, scenario analysis, and KPI development.
  • Support contract analysis and vendor negotiations.
  • Prepare executive‑level financial presentations and recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance and accounting functions.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory accounting, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Serve as a cross‑functional hands‑on financial leader capable of stepping into operational accounting responsibilities during staffing transitions, high workload periods, system implementations, or business growth.
  • Assist with audit coordination, tax planning support, and CPA firm relationships.
  • Support strategic initiatives, acquisitions, capital projects, and long‑term growth planning.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, financial controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in executive leadership development with exposure to strategic financial management and organizational leadership responsibilities.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required; MBA or CPA required.
  • 8–12+ years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience.
  • Experience in grocery, retail, distribution, or multi‑unit operations strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Education
