Job summary

Genesis Healthcare, Inc. is seeking a nurse leader for a Director of Nursing in Training (DON-IT) role in Lewiston, ME. This program prepares the next generation of clinical leaders in skilled nursing and long-term care, offering mentorship and hands-on leadership experiences.

You will rotate through clinical and operational areas, develop leadership skills, and complete a capstone project presented to nursing leadership at the center, Pod, or national level.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and hold current RN licensure by the State Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate through key clinical and operational areas to understand how nursing leadership impacts quality outcomes, staffing, resident experience, compliance, and center success.
  • Learn essential DON responsibilities including staffing management, clinical reimbursement basics, survey readiness, quality measures, infection prevention, labor management, and interdisciplinary team leadership.
  • Participate in project-based assignments focused on improving resident care, quality outcomes, workforce engagement, and operational performance.
  • Attend leadership meetings, coaching sessions, and development workshops focused on communication, accountability, culture-building, and leading high-performing clinical teams.
  • Work with experienced Directors of Nursing and market clinical leaders who will provide mentorship and feedback.
  • Develop confidence in leading clinical teams, managing daily operations, and driving quality care in a fast-paced skilled nursing environment.
  • Present a capstone project focused on a clinical, operational, or workforce initiative to nursing center, Pod, or national leadership.

Strengthen Leadership Skills

Attend leadership meetings, coaching sessions, and development workshops focused on communication, accountability, culture-building, and leading high-performing clinical teams.

Receive Personalized Mentorship

Work directly alongside experienced Directors of Nursing, Nursing Home Administrators, and market clinical leaders who will support your growth through structured mentorship and ongoing feedback.

Build Real-World Readiness

Develop confidence in leading clinical teams, managing daily operations, responding to challenges, and driving quality care in a fast-paced skilled nursing environment.

Complete a Capstone Project

At the end of the program, present a capstone project focused on a clinical, operational, or workforce initiative to nursing center, Pod, or national leadership.

Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, college or university with current registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing. BSN is preferred.
