Qualifications

Applicants must have a degree in accounting, business, or equivalent and have a minimum of five years accounting/bookkeeping experience including payroll. This is the perfect position for a meticulous, experienced person who is a team player, visionary and can work independently. Applicants must have the heart of a teacher and be comfortable with working in environments with others possessing a variety of skill levels.

  • A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a Catholic, multicultural setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English in oral and written (using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Three years of experience in internal or external auditing.
  • Knowledge of accepted accounting principles and financial procedures and proper internal audit functions and requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and state tax laws.
  • Ability to work and relate to a variety of personalities, ages, and cultures with diplomacy, friendliness, and poise.
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment, handle multiple assignments consecutively, and prioritize workload.
  • Additional emphasis will be given to those who also possess the following:
  • Working knowledge of ParishSOFT Family Suite: Offering & Pledges and ParishSOFT Accounting.
Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Diocesan CFO:

  • Implement financial and administrative policies.
  • Participate in ParishSOFT training and keep abreast of updates and best practices.
  • Perform high quality financial and administrative internal reviews of parishes and schools to help provide better financial and operating efficiency, compliance, and proper internal control procedures.
  • Attend department meetings as requested.
  • Attend parish/school Finance Council meetings as requested.
  • Maintain an on-going review of the diocesan accounting policies and Pastoral Guidelines to assist parish/school staff in job performance.
  • Attend outside workshops to stay current in accounting practices.
  • Present educational, financial, and administrative workshops to parishes and their pastors, finance councils, and administrative staff.
