Job summary

Viva Senior Living in New York is seeking a Server in the Dietary department to prepare and serve nutritious meals to residents, while maintaining safety and sanitation standards in daily operations.

You will follow HACCP guidelines, support meal service, and participate in training and emergency drills, keeping residents’ dignity and confidentiality at the forefront of care.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals to residents in a safe, sanitary manner in accordance with public health regulations and sanitation codes.
• Be familiar with HACCP and WHMIS.
• Ensure a clean, safe working environment by practicing safe work habits, correct hand-washing techniques, and routine cleaning.
• Serve attractive, nutritious meals in a pleasant and respectful manner, mindful of residents’ special needs.
• Use equipment safely and maintain it by cleaning, sanitizing, and following cleaning schedules.
• Set tables, pour beverages, and clear and clean dishes in the dining rooms daily.
• Put away received stock following required procedures.
• Follow cleaning procedures when mechanical equipment is unavailable (e.g., power failure).
• Perform other duties as directed by the Dining Services Director.
• Report any infractions in the food services department policies and procedures.
• Arrive at work on time.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
• Ensure residents and families receive high-quality service in a caring, compassionate atmosphere that recognizes their needs and rights.
• Report occupational exposures (blood, body fluids, infectious materials, hazardous chemicals) per facility policy.
• Report work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to the supervisor.
• Complete all assigned training and skills competency as a condition of employment.
• Participate in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings.
• Fulfill responsibilities during activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
• Assist with emergency evacuation of residents.
• Maintain confidentiality of PHI, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
• Report non-compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations to appropriate personnel.
• Protect residents from abuse and cooperate with investigations.
• Report abuse, neglect, misappropriation, exploitation, or mistreatment to supervisor/administrator.
• Report retaliation or discrimination to the Human Resources Director and Compliance Officer.
• Report suspected crimes to law enforcement and the state agency.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

• Annual TB skin test verification (negative).
• Meet general health requirements, including medical and physical examination.

Physical & Sensory Requirements

• Move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
• See and hear (or use prosthetics) adequately to perform duties.
• Work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally agitated residents.
• Push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least 5 feet and a distance of 50 feet.
• May assist in evacuation during emergency situations.
