Job summary

LER TechForce seeks a Dimensional Control Engineer to support automotive projects in Rochester, MI. You will perform GD&T planning, datum coordination, and gauge development, interfacing with design and manufacturing teams to ensure dimensional accuracy and process control.

The role requires extensive experience with GD&T, metrology tools, and CATIA V5, with a focus on ensuring parts meet customer specifications and launch readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years dimensional engineering experience.
• Proficiency in 2D GD&T creation.
• Experience with ASME Y14.5M standards and datum strategy.
• CATIA V5 proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Perform GD&T planning and creation per ASME Y14.5M.
• Select datums and coordinate GD&T features.
• Lead dimensional analysis and gauge development.

We are seeking a Dimensional Control Engineer to support our client in Rochester, MI.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) planning and creation, based on ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard or newer
• Datum selection and coordination
• Slip plane strategy recommendations
• Design gap recommendations
• Measurement point definition and creation
• Providing feedback to the product design and manufacturing teams related to dimensional issues and concerns
• Exterior & Interior Gap and Flush Build Objective creation and maintenance
• Establishing checking fixture build orientation
• 1D (RSS) tolerance stack and/or 3D tolerance variation analysis experience
• Ability to interface directly with supply base and assembly plant during part, checking fixture, and assembly equipment buy-offs
• Support all aspects and milestones of gauge development from concept design reviews, kick-off and follow-up meetings, certifications and repeatability studies, operator instructions, and sign-off
• Supporting or overseeing tool repeatability (TR) studies on assembly equipment
• Leading dimensional analysis activities at supply base during part buyoffs
• Supporting assembly builds to achieve dimensional accuracy to meet customer requirements
• Leading data driven root cause investigations at manufacturing locations
• Supporting SPC, APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plan, and PPAP activities as required
• Assembly plant launch experience
• Actively look for ways to add value beyond specifically assigned scope of work

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Proficient with 2D GD&T creation, releasing, and maintenance.
• Ability to create 3D tolerance simulation models using industry standard simulation software (3DCS).
• Reasonable knowledge of manufacturing/assembly processes in an automotive assembly environment.
• Understanding of gauge design, development, and measurement principles.
• Experience with different metrology types/systems (ATOS Scanbox, CMM, Perceptron, Faro, LMI, Keyence, etc.).
• Understanding of PLM systems (Windchill or Teamcenter).
• Proficient with Catia V5.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral, written and communication skills.
• Strong sense of urgency.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong quality mindset.
• Previous OEM launch experience.
• Engineering bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of technical education (A.A.S.) and relevant experience specific to dimensional engineering (10yrs+).
• Proficient in Catia and creation of 2D GD&T drawings.

Preferred:

• ASME GD&T Certification.
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Certification.
