Job summary

Corning is seeking a Digital Software Engineer IT/OT in Wilmington, NC to design, develop, and implement digital strategies across multiple plants. You will lead or contribute to cost-reduction and quality improvements by applying the latest digital and automation concepts within manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience with automation/optimization projects.
  • Proficiency in web development, .NET, Flask, IIS, VS, and Git.
  • Experience with SSRS, SQL, and PowerBI for analytics.
  • Knowledge of process control, data analysis, modeling, and control tuning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication across teams.
  • Experience with statistical methods and Lean DMAIC.
  • Experience with ChatGPT and RAG implementations.
  • Familiar with model predictive, multi-variable, non-linear, PID controls.
  • Machine vision: algorithm development and use of industrial cameras.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement digital solutions for manufacturing leveraging data analytics and programming.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to define controls hardware platforms for process control.

The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Role Purpose:

Help design, develop, and implement our division digital strategy across multiple manufacturing plants. This position will lead or play a significant role delivering transformative cost reduction across the division while improving quality and process capability. An ideal candidate will be capable of learning and implementing the latest vision, digital and automation technology and concepts and work with the operations, supply chain, and finance organizations to deploy projects in manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement solutions for manufacturing which leverage latest digital technologies including data analytics and programming technologies, and work closely with manufacturing to define appropriate controls hardware platforms/systems for implementing process control solutions.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of existing processes to identify process control optimization opportunities and write proposals to initiate cross-functional projects.
  • Work with experienced professionals in manufacturing and multi-disciplined team processes subject matter experts, and apply process data analysis skills to gain fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize statistical analysis to design for process capability.
  • Lead projects and work in a multi-disciplinary research, development, and engineering environment to identify opportunities for digital business transformation.
  • Facilitate the transfer of new process control technologies and methodologies into manufacturing and provide training to manufacturing and engineering personnel.
  • Document process control findings and newly implemented technologies in technical reports and functional specifications. Generate intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications.

Experiences/Education - Required:

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing industry experience with a track record of automation and/or optimization project implementation.
  • Programming-related skills related to or involving web development, .NET, Flask, Microsoft IIS, Visual Studio, Git
  • Analysis/Reporting experience with tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL, PowerBI
  • Experience in practical application of process control, including process data analysis, system modeling/identification, and control loop design/tuning
  • Strong verbal and written skills, able to prepare and present proposals effectively with and across multiple organizations.
  • Experience in statistical analysis methods, and Lean-Optimization (e.g., Six Sigma/DMAIC)
  • Experience with ChatGPT and RAG implementations.
  • Familiarity with a diverse array of process controls technologies such as model predictive, multi-variable, non-linear approaches, and classic PID control
  • Machine vision experience including algorithm development, coding, and use of industrial cameras/vision.

The range for this position is$75,274.00-$103,503.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
