Job Overview

The Mid-Corp Senior Group Manager / Director for Digital, Technology & Communications (DT&C) is a premier leadership role responsible for directing and growing Citi's commercial banking franchise across one of the most dynamic, high-growth sectors of the economy. Managing multiple teams through other managers and senior Relationship Managers (RMs), this position combines executive functional strategy, active industry ecosystem engagement, and senior credit authority.

Within Citi Commercial Bank (CCB), our DT&C vertical partners with innovative, high-growth, and established companies across Software (SaaS/Enterprise), FinTech & Payment Intermediaries, Telecommunications, Media, Digital Infrastructure, and the broader Venture Capital / Private Equity-backed innovation ecosystem.

The Senior Group Manager requires an in-depth understanding of how the DT&C sub-function contributes to CCB's broader commercial objectives, deep knowledge of direct competitors' products/services, and mastery of cross-border financial solutions. Functioning as an integral member of the functional leadership team within the country/cluster, this leader is accountable for end results, budgeting, team revenue targets, credit portfolio health, and talent development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Franchise Strategy & Business Development in DT&C

  • Execute Segment Strategy: Drive and implement the strategic direction for the DT&C vertical across Mid-Corporates, aligning with central initiatives across the Commercial Bank, Corporate Bank, and Investment Banking (EIB/Banking).
  • Ecosystem Leadership & Origination: Position Citi as the preferred banking partner for the innovation economy by actively building and nurturing high-impact relationships with founders, CEOs, CFOs, venture capital (VC) firms, private equity (PE) sponsors, accelerators, and tech industry networks.
  • Cross-Border & Multi-Product Growth: Lead coverage efforts for companies with international footprints, driving multi-product adoption including Treasury & Trade Solutions (TTS), FX & Derivative Markets, Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Loan Syndications, and Corporate Finance.
  • Deep Tech Sector Specialization: Provide commercial thought leadership and advisory on sub-sector dynamics—such as recurring revenue/SaaS metrics, complex flow-of-funds in payment intermediaries (PI), merchant acquirers, money movement platforms, and embedded finance.

2. People Leadership & Talent Management (Manager of Managers)

  • Multi-Team Governance: Full management responsibility for multiple teams of Relationship Managers (RMs), Team Leaders, and execution staff, including hiring, compensation, performance evaluation, mentoring, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Talent Attraction & Bench Strength: Attract, retain, and inspire top-tier commercial banking talent with specialized tech sector expertise, building a robust talent bench and succession pipeline.
  • Culture of Excellence: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance sales and service culture that thrives in a fast-paced, evolving market environment.

3. Credit Leadership, Deal Structuring & Innovation

  • Credit Oversight & Decision Authority: Oversee the end-to-end credit lifecycle for the DT&C portfolio; exercise commercial credit decision-making authority for complex capital structures, recurring revenue debt facilities, asset-backed lending, and cross-border transactions.
  • Senior Credit Officer (SCO) Capabilities: Guide deal teams through the credit approval process, manage risk committee dialogues, and maintain credit disciplines capable of Senior Credit Officer (SCO) standards.
  • Innovative Risk-Reward Structuring: Partner closely with product specialists, Credit Loan Management, and Independent Risk to structure creative lending and deposit solutions tailored to high-growth tech business models while protecting the bank’s capital.
  • Early Warning Detection: Champion proactive risk detection, tracking sector-specific leading indicators (burn rates, runway, churn, regulatory shifts in fintech, refinancing risk).

4. Risk, Governance & Controls

  • Ethical Leadership & Reputation: Appropriately assess risk in all business decisions, demonstrating unwavering consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets.
  • First Line of Defense Governance: Ensure robust onboarding, KYC/AML diligence, and counterparty reviews—particularly when evaluating complex flow-of-funds, multi-tier counterparties, and payment processor entities.
  • Policy Compliance: Drive absolute compliance with local and global regulatory standards, credit policies, and risk governance frameworks, fostering transparency and accountability across all managed teams.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, or related institutional financial services, with a substantial track record covering Technology, Media, Telecom (TMT), Software, or FinTech sectors.
  • Demonstrated Leadership as a Manager of Managers: Proven success in leading multi-functional or multi-team coverage organizations, managing budgets, setting team targets, and developing high-performing bankers.
  • Advanced Credit & Structuring Expertise: Deep commercial credit decision-making authority with substantial experience in complex capital structures, leveraged finance, syndicated loans, and cross-border underwriting. Capability or credentialing at/towards Senior Credit Officer (SCO) level.
  • FinTech & Tech Domain Mastery: Strong working knowledge of digital business models (e.g., enterprise software capitalization, SaaS recurring revenues, payment gateways, fund flows, and platform ecosystems).
  • Origination & Deal Execution Track Record: Proven ability to self-originate new-to-bank relationships, lead high-profile pitch processes, and negotiate complex transactions at the C-suite/Board level.
  • Ecosystem Connectivity: Established network and credibility within the venture capital, private equity, tech founder, and corporate finance communities.
  • Stakeholder Management & Influencing: Superior interpersonal and communication skills to effectively negotiate and align with senior internal partners (Risk, Product, Investment Banking, Compliance) and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptability & Data Orientation: High capacity to work under pressure, pivot strategic priorities based on data insights, and guide teams through organizational and market change.
