Job summary

Rochester Institute of Technology seeks a Digital Scholarship Data Librarian on campus to support faculty and students in digital scholarship initiatives.

You will consult with researchers, develop workshops, and manage the Digital Scholarship Studio, aligning data management with grant requirements and the research lifecycle.

Qualifications

Job description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Consult with researchers on digital scholarship projects, including guidance on best practices, workflows, scope, relevant methodologies and technologies.
  • Assist scholars in managing research outputs, including organization and long-term preservation strategies.
  • Advise researchers on options for publishing digital scholarship outputs in online repositories, open access journals, or other appropriate platforms.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate digital scholarship initiatives.
  • Develop, teach, and assess workshops and programming in support of digital scholarship.
  • Staff the digital scholarship service point.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in digital scholarship methodologies, technologies, and tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Level Overview

Specialized Contributor Level 2 - A fully functional role requiring established knowledge of the profession or field of work. Responsible for completing substantive assignments and projects. Problems are varied and non-routine, requiring judgment, analysis, advisement, creativity, and understanding of broader issues. May provide assistance to entry-level staff.

Reporting to the Metadata and Digital Scholarship Services Manager, the Digital Scholarship Data Librarian works with staff and student employees to help faculty and students build competencies in digital scholarship tools and applications. The position manages the new Digital Scholarship Studio, pilots workshops and programming, and actively engages with faculty to integrate digital scholarship technologies into their research and teaching. The Data Librarian also provides expertise on best practices for data management to support the research lifecycle and meeting grant and external funding requirements.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the Digital Scholarship Studio, including scheduling coverage and working with DS staff to develop and promote events and programming.
  • Monitor the Digital Projects network drive.
  • Develop, run, and assess programming and consultation services related to data management, including tools and best practices.
  • Work with stakeholders across the university in support of faculty research (e.g., Sponsored Research and Research Computing).
Additional Skills
  • Skill in data cleaning, analysis, and visualization.
  • Familiarity with coding and scripting languages (e.g., R or Python).
