Job Summary

The Rural Health Transformational Project ( RHTP ) is a strategic initiative designed to improve access to comprehensive oral health services, enhance interprofessional education, and strengthen the healthcare workforce in rural and underserved communities throughout Eastern Kentucky. A key component of the project is the operation and expansion of a Mobile Dental Unit ( MDU ) that delivers digitally fabricated dentures to underserved populations across the service region.

This Clinical Title Series Faculty position is required to provide clinical leadership, patient care services, educational activities, community engagement, and support for Mobile Dental Unit operations in support of the Rural Health Transformational Project. The faculty member will work collaboratively with College of Dentistry leadership, community partners, healthcare providers, students, residents, and stakeholders to advance the oral health objectives of the project and improve the health outcomes of rural populations.

Primary Funding Source: Rural Health Transformational Project ( RHTP )

This position is supported by external grant funding and is expected to continue through the duration of the grant, currently funded for a five-year period, subject to funding availability.

Responsibilities:

• The individual in this position will work closely with the Department of Oral Health Science, the Center for Rural Health at Hazard, and Rural Health Transformational Project leadership to develop and maintain clinical, community-based, and Mobile Dental Unit oral health initiatives throughout the service region.
• Primary responsibilities include providing direct patient care and delivery of digitally fabricated prosthetics through mobile clinical and/or fixed-site settings, supporting Mobile Dental Unit operations, participating in community outreach activities, assisting with program development, and engaging in scholarly and service activities consistent with a Clinical Title Series faculty appointment.
• The faculty member is expected to establish productive working relationships with a broad range of constituencies including dental and medical faculty, healthcare professionals, community organizations, local health departments, school systems, hospital administrators, government agencies, and regional leaders. The individual will contribute to the advancement of innovative care delivery models, including the Mobile Dental Unit, and participate in activities that support the sustainability and growth of the Rural Health Transformational Project. Working directly with administrative staff, the faculty member is expected to participate in data collection, quality improvement, outcomes assessment, and reporting activities related to Mobile Dental Unit services. Additionally, the faculty member is responsible for ensuring Mobile Dental Unit activities comply with applicable clinical, operational, safety, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

The distribution of effort ( DOE ) for this position will include Instruction 0%, Research and Scholarly, Activity 5%, Service 75-85% Patient Care and Clinical Instruction (including Mobile Dental Unit activities, Administration 5-10% Rural Health Transformational Project and Mobile Dental Unit Administration/Community Engagement, & Professional Development 5%).

• DMD / DDS or other professional clinical degree, with important commitment to clinical service and academic community.
• Evidence of or potential for a high level of clinical competence in a clinical area and use of innovative approaches, technologies, instrumentation, or systems of patient care in a clinical discipline.
• Evidence of or potential for recognition by peers and patients as an excellent clinician.
• Evidence of or potential for developing a leadership role in a clinical division or discipline and active participation in local, regional, or national professional clinical organizations.
• Evidence of or potential for recognition by dental students, residents, fellows, continuing dental education attendees, affiliated health professionals, and peers for excellence in clinical teaching.

Associate Professor

• Evidence of or potential for recognition by dental students, residents, fellows, continuing dental education attendees, affiliated health professionals, and peers for excellence in clinical teaching.
• Provides service to the college, university academic community, and/or profession on committees, boards, programs, or centers.
• Development of greater than local reputation in clinical practice and emerging reputation as an authority in a clinical field.
• Continuing evidence of peer recognition as an excellent clinical teacher at regional level.
• Demonstrated creative contributions to the instructional and clinical service programs of the University, and/or has scholarly activities of important or original clinical investigations appropriate for the research allocation described on the individual’s DOE .

Professor

• Outstanding service as associate professor at UKCD (or its equivalent elsewhere) with important accomplishments as clinician and teacher, as well as service to academic community supported through contracts, grants or clinical income.
• Evidence of advancement of skills/knowledge in the field as recognized by peers, programs, certification or advanced degree(s).
• Significant leadership role in provision of dental health care.
• Development of national reputation for excellence in clinical practice, and as an authority in a clinical field.
• Established recognition as an outstanding clinical teacher beyond regional level.
• Scholarly activities of important and original clinical investigations appropriate for the research allocation described on the individual’s DOE .
