Position Overview

Position OverviewWorking closely with the Vice Provost of KLETC, the Digital Media Specialist provides services for digital media projects in the form of graphic design, social media management, and website management. Maintain ongoing compliance with KU and KLETC branding and marketing standards across all content, graphics, and social media platforms. These services support all courses and programs offered through KLETC and the Center for Public Safety Leadership. The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multi-story residential student dormitories. The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 65 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year. Job Description
50% Media and Graphic Design Production
  • Capture and produce all social media content. Production work includes but is not limited to graphic overlay/design and editing.
  • Create graphics for a variety of projects including, but not limited to, promotional materials, marketing content, websites, and job postings.
  • Identify target audiences and develop social media content with specific objectives across different channels and segments.
  • Identify effectiveness and impact of current social media initiatives with tracking and analysis and optimize accordingly.
  • Increases brand awareness and market share at both a local and national level through social media platforms.
30% Content Development and Project Management
  • Provide content for media projects, ensuring consistency across the program portfolio.
  • Develop content and media for dissemination via social media, websites, and other distribution.
  • Ensure that key messages align with the Vice Provost’s strategic plan.
  • Build and manage KLETC’s social media profile and presence.
10% Program Support
  • Collaborate with unit heads to ensure program goals will be met through social media content.
  • Meet with appropriate staff to review media production steps to ensure social media content and graphic design content is targeting the appropriate audience.
  • Work closely with the Vice Provost to develop measurable objectives and evaluate projects against those standards.
10% Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
  1. Valid Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.
Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED equivalency and four years relevant experience, or associate’s degree and two years relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  2. A minimum of three years relevant experience.
  3. Experience in studio photography, photography software, and video and multimedia production, as evidenced in application materials.
  4. Excellent written communication skills as evidenced in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with customer relationship management principles and tools, as evidenced by application materials.
  2. Experience developing successful creative campaigns, as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Experience in developing brand strategy or campaign plans, as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Experience working with teams on large-scale, long-term projects, as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Prioritization skills to establish and manage critical deadlines for self and team.
  6. Attention to detail and the desire to contribute to issue-identification and problem-solving, as evidenced in application materials and interview.
  7. Technically proficient in graphic design, to include experience with graphic design software, as evidenced by application materials.
  8. Experience with website design and management, as evidenced by application materials.
