Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Hemlock, MI seeks an IT/CS-focused intern to support the Manufacturing IT team. You will work on MES enhancements, troubleshooting, and data visualization projects across the plant, gaining hands-on experience with relevant enterprise tools.

The role emphasizes learning, cross-functional collaboration, and exposure to databases, cloud data platforms, and automation. Summer 2027 is the expected window, with a final project presentation and housing/travel assistance

Qualifications

  • Student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, processes, and business concepts quickly.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May-August 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location

Responsibilities

  • Learn the solar wafer manufacturing process and how technology supports plant operations.
  • Support enhancements, configuration, or development within the manufacturing execution system.
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues that affect manufacturing departments and physical processes.
  • Create or enhance reports and data visualizations using tools such as Power BI, SSRS, or AVEVA PI Vision.
  • Use SQL and database concepts to support data interactions and query development.
  • Contribute to custom solutions, full-stack applications, or web development based on business needs.
  • Support interactions with infrastructure, hardware, and plant technology systems.
  • Explore Databricks, Microsoft Power Automate, or other digital tools that improve plant processes.
  • Document technical work, testing, findings, and recommendations.

The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Position Summary

The intern will join the Manufacturing IT team at the Hemlock Solar Plant, supporting technology services used across the facility. Based on business needs and the intern's interests, the experience may include manufacturing execution systems, troubleshooting, reporting and visualization, databases, application development, infrastructure, cloud data platforms, or workflow automation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with SQL, reporting and visualization tools, web development, or full-stack development.
  • Interest in manufacturing execution systems, plant applications, infrastructure, automation, or cloud data platforms.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage with both physical and technical processes.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
