Job summary

Ingredion is offering a summer 2027 Digital Innovation Intern opportunity in Bridgewater, NJ, with a hybrid work arrangement (3 days on-site). You will accelerate predictive formulation and digital innovation by building tools for data capture, model development, and virtual experiments.

You will work with formulation scientists and AI leaders to apply machine learning, LLMs, and agentic approaches to scientific data and knowledge extraction. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree pursuit is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in a relevant field with focus on data science or AI.
• Experience with Python for data analysis, model development, or automation.
• Familiarity with ML/AI, image analysis, and data visualization is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review literature and emerging technologies in predictive formulation, ML, AI, and automated data capture.
• Develop digital tools for data capture, quality assessment, feature extraction, and model workflows.
• Build predictive models and virtual experiments to explore formulation space and visualize results.

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious student to join our R&D team for summer 2027! As the Digital Innovation Intern , you will help accelerate the adoption of predictive formulation and digital innovation capabilities across our organization. Working closely with formulation scientists and digital innovation leaders, you will explore leading academic approaches and develop practical digital tools for automated data capture, data quality assessment, feature extraction, predictive modeling, and virtual experimentation. Your work may include converting food or microscopy images into quantitative measurements, creating machine-learning descriptors from molecular structures, developing AI-powered workflows, and applying large language models (LLM) and agentic approaches to scientific data analysis and knowledge extraction!

What you will do:

• Review academic literature, open-source methods, and emerging technologies relevant to predictive formulation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, agentic systems, automated data capture, image analysis, and computational chemistry.
• Develop digital tools that automate data capture, data quality assessment, feature extraction, data preparation, and model development workflows.
• Build predictive models and create virtual experiment tools that allow scientists to explore formulation space and visualize predicted results.
• Explore and implement AI, LLM and agentic approaches to support scientific knowledge extraction, data interpretation, experiment planning, and workflow automation.
• Design reusable code base and create clear technical documentation, user guides, and examples that support future predictive modeling projects.
• Summarize progress, communicate results to project partners, and present recommendations and a final demonstration at the completion of the internship.

What you will bring:

• Progress towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Food Science, Chemical engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry or a related field.
• Experience using Python or other data descriptive languages for data analysis, model development, workflow automation, or scientific research.
• Familiarity with one or more of the following areas are preferred. Machine learning and predictive modeling
• Artificial Intelligence, LLMs or agentic approaches
• Image analysis and computer vision
• Computational chemistry
• Data visualization and dashboard development
• Design of experiments and statistical analysis

Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret scientific data and communicate technical results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Reliable transportation required to get to and from facility each work day.
