Job summary

HDR is seeking a Digital Design Wayfinding Specialist to deliver BIM-based signage and wayfinding outputs across multiple building types. You will model, annotate, and coordinate within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring accuracy and asset data integrity.

You will collaborate with architects and engineers, maintain discipline models, and translate design models into fabrication-ready details while meeting project constraints and schedules.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years related industry experience.
• Proficient in 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
• Competency of Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
• Experience with 3D Coordination tools.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits are essential.
• Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.

Responsibilities

• Model BIM elements and generate discipline models per LOD in project scope.
• Create and maintain discipline model, content, and digital delivery output.
• Provide technical guidance and coordinate with architects/engineers during the project.
• Accurately model BIM elements with correct constraints in current software.
• Ensure asset data parameters (IDs, materials, power) are captured for procurement/FM.
• Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, schedules, and diagrams within scope and budget.
• Maintain project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, and sheets.
• Produce discipline documentation with precise annotations on outputs.
• Coordinate design with other discipline models via Design Reviews and 3D Coordination.

HDR is seeking a candidate with the desire to use and grow their technical expertise to successfully deliver projects across a variety of markets and building types, with potential to support architecture work across Water, Resource, Federal, and Building Engineering market sectors. In this role, you’ll partner with other digital delivery specialists and architects to execute the design, documentation, and construction administration of signage and wayfinding designs for multiple building types, from high-performance data centers that power cloud computing and the digital infrastructure the world relies on, to water treatment facilities that provide clean drinking water for entire communities, to advanced manufacturing plants, office spaces, operations centers, and maintenance facilities, among other project types.

Responsibilities

In the role of Digital Design Wayfinding Specialist, we'll count on you to:

• Work for the signage and wayfinding discipline, under the direct supervision of a technical professional
• Be responsible for their discipline model and will generate the BIM elements, based on the Level of Development (LOD) outlined in the Digital Delivery Plan (DDP) and project scope.
• Create and maintain the discipline model, systems, content, and overall digital delivery output
• Rely on the architect, engineer, or other technical professional to provide direction and guidance throughout the project duration but will be technically competent with the discipline and software used to produce the designs identified in the Digital Delivery requirements
• Accurately model the BIM elements in the correct special constraints of the modeling environment, using the current 3D software
• Ensure BIM elements contain accurate asset data parameters (e.g., asset IDs, material specifications, and power requirements) to support procurement and facility management.
• Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, schedules, & diagrams of the design within the project scope, schedule, and budget, using the current 3D software, and assist in translating design models into fabrication-ready details.
• Maintain the discipline model including project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, scope boundaries, match-lines, views, and sheets
• Produce discipline specific documentation with accurate annotations on all modeling output
• Coordinate the design with other discipline models through Design Reviews and the 3D Coordination process

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic understanding of wayfinding concepts, including familiarity with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines and life safety and egress signage requirements.
• Experience working on large-scale, complex infrastructure or technical facility projects.
• Familiarity with graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and/or specialized wayfinding and signage design software.
