Job Description:
This position supports capital design changes within a nuclear facility, focusing on digital, instrumentation, and control systems. The engineer will serve as a Responsible Engineer and/or Supporting Engineer, contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of systems such as distributed control systems (DCS), plant network infrastructure, defensive architecture, and security computer systems. The role requires technical expertise, regulatory awareness, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compliant, and high-performance engineering solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as Responsible Engineer or Supporting Engineer for capital design changes involving digital, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Develop scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes involving DCS, plant network systems, defensive architecture, and security computer systems.
- Provide expert-level engineering support throughout the project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, design reviews, and field implementation.
- Ensure all designs comply with nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Create, review, and revise technical documentation, including design specifications, system descriptions, and engineering calculations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated system designs for nuclear plant projects.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and vendor evaluations to ensure alignment with project goals and regulatory requirements.
- Support updates to site design basis documents, drawings, and regulatory documentation impacted by engineering design changes.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- A Master’s degree in engineering may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
- 4–6 years of engineering experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong background in digital control systems, plant network architecture, and cybersecurity in nuclear environments.
- Proficient in engineering design processes and regulatory compliance within the nuclear industry.
- Experience with DCS platforms, industrial control systems, and secure network design.
- Familiarity with NRC regulations, IEEE standards, and nuclear QA programs.
- State registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with system integration, vendor coordination, and field implementation.
- Working knowledge of relevant software tools and modeling platforms.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
