Job summary

UPMC in Harrisburg is hiring a Full-Time Dietitian to support the hospital. The schedule runs 7:30am-4:00pm with Saturday rotation and Sunday on-call. The role includes nutrition assessment, education, interdepartmental collaboration and mentorship of students and interns.

Qualifications

• RD required; 2026 rule: pre-2026 RD with bachelor’s, post-2026 RD with master's.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements; outpatient billing.
• Provide in-servicing or CEUs to the multidisciplinary team.
• Formulate Nutrition Diagnosis and identify malnutrition using assessment criteria.
• Execute orders per Dietitian Delegation Order system.
• Provide nutritional education and counseling to patients/families.
• Communicate effectively within the interdisciplinary care team.
• Mentor dietetic students and interns; provide feedback.
• Provide timely nutrition interventions based on risk level and care plan.
• Deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy and plan of care for diverse populations.
• Lead department initiatives and endorse evidence-based practice.
• Act as nutrition liaison to units and participate in committees.
• Prepare materials with professional writing suited to health literacy levels.

Pay range for this position is $27.25-$46.26.

Responsibilities

• As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
• Provide in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department or facility level.
• Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
• Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
• Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
• Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement.
• Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
• Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
• Lead one department initiative annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
• Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
• As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications.

Dietitian I

• For individuals who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) certification prior to January 1, 2026, a bachelor's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics is required.
• For individuals who obtained their Registered Dietitian (RD) certification on or after January 1, 2026, a master's degree in a Nutrition or Dietetics is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

• Registered Dietitian within 6 months of hire required.
• Licensed Dietitian within 9 months of hire required.

Dietitian II

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with Registered Dietitian certification obtained before January 1, 2026 with 2 years clinical nutrition experience required.
• OR
• Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with Registered Dietitian certification obtained on or after January 1, 2026 with 1 year of clinical nutrition experience required.
