1.0FTE/40 hours a week/Fulltime

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides individual and group nutrition counseling for referred patients and provides education programs for business and community groups. Patient/customer care includes care to patients/customers in the following age groups: adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and above).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Provides individual and group nutrition counseling and education in nutrition principles in outpatient settings.
  • Maintains effective nutrition education programs for specific populations served.
  • Maintains nutritional records and communicates pertinent information with appropriate healthcare professional(s).
  • Participates in continuing educational activities to maintain current skills and information and as per license requirements.
  • Participates in marketing of services.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Performs daily and/or routine maintenance and calibrates the test equipment as necessary. Recognizes and troubleshoots basic instrument malfunctions and resolves with the proper action taken.
  • Sets up, performs, and evaluates programmed quality control materials according to established control limits.
  • Provides nutritional updates and educates staff in nutritional education trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or related field from an accredited school.
  • Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania as a dietitian-nutritionist within three (3) months from date of hire.
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian, issued by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, or registration eligible/obtaining certification within 3 months from date of hire.
  • Two (2) years of nutrition education.
  • One (1) year of diabetes education knowledge and counseling skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and other members of health care team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of clinical nutrition education, knowledge, and counseling skills.
  • One (1) year education background in teaching/learning with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • One (1) year of maternal/newborn nutritional education.
  • Previously experience working with lower income populations.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
