The New York City Department of Correction seeks a Dietitian to oversee nutritional care for inmates and collaborate with medical staff on diet plans. You will supervise food service staff, participate in menu planning, and ensure compliance with nutrition standards across facilities in all five boroughs.
Ideal candidates hold a Dietetics degree or RD certification, with strong experience in clinical nutrition, EMR systems, and independent work.
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the city towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

Dietitians assigned to Levell II that hold a Masters degree, Registered Dietitians and Certified Dietitians are entitled to an Education/Registration/Certification differential in addition to the annual salary shown.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, either one year served at Assignment Level I or one additional year of the experience described in "1" above.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, either one year served at Assignment Level II or two additional years of the experience described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been supervisory, or spent performing professional procurement duties equivalent to those performed at Assignment Level III.
Residency Requirement:
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
