Qualifications

Job description

Position Summary

As a Registered Dietitian you will interact closely with medical providers, administration, nursing staff, therapy teams, and the culinary department on‑site to support patients at Banner Baywood Medical Center. You will provide comprehensive nutritional assessments, develop appropriate nutrition care plans, monitor outcomes, offer patient and family counseling and education, and collaborate with peers to develop Nutrition Standards of Practice and educational material. The position covers our Heart Hospital, including ICU. Certified Nutrition Support Clinician certification is preferred but not required.

Work Schedule

Shift: Monday‑Friday, flexible between 7:30am‑9am start time; rotating weekend and holiday coverage.

Core Functions

• Provides nutritional education and instruction on identified diet plans to individual patients, groups, and families based on physician orders or identified educational needs; may also provide community education.
• Prioritizes tasks and uses effective time‑management skills to maintain productivity standards; assists the dietitian in delivering an efficient and cost‑effective nutrition care program while meeting service excellence standards.
• In designated areas performs timely nutrition assessments and may provide screening using criteria to identify patients at nutritional risk; determines nutritional status by completing assessments based on nutrition practice guidelines.
• Provides timely follow‑up and monitoring of patients identified for re‑screening and re‑assessment; refers patients to the dietitian; documents pertinent information in the medical records and patient plan of care while meeting regulatory requirements.
• Assists with continuous quality improvement activities, problem solving, and conducts meal rounds as indicated.
• Judges patient care decisions and consults with a dietitian, supervisor, or other members of the healthcare team regarding patient concerns; directs departmental staff to deliver quality nutrition patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate Degree from an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Dietetic Technician program and successful passing of the DTR exam within 6 months of employment, OR
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Nutritional Science, OR
• Demonstrated equivalent knowledge typically obtained with five years of acute‑care nutrition experience.
• For behavioral health clinical settings serving children, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at hire and maintenance, and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit signed upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR); experience in Nutrition within an acute‑care setting is preferred.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
