Job summary

UNC Health Care System, within the NFS Patient Services unit in Chapel Hill, NC, is seeking a part-time Nutrition Services aide to ensure accurate, efficient meal delivery and patient satisfaction. You will assist with tray prep, maintain sanitary standards, and support high-quality nutrition service in a hospital setting.

Position requires approximately 20 hours per week, on-site in the evening schedule, with a focus on patient care and teamwork.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in food service or customer service OR hospital clinical dietetics.
• Current ServSafe certification preferred.
• Must be able to walk/move throughout the facility for a large portion of the day.

Responsibilities

• Delivers food trays, nourishments, and snacks to patients in a timely manner.
• Assists with tray preparation during meal service hours.
• Adheres to safety, sanitation, health, and privacy standards.
• Transfers food and equipment between storerooms, workstations, and storage areas.
• Communicates with patients regarding meal tickets and related information.
• Maintains professional demeanor with patients, visitors, and staff.

Summary

This position works to ensure that patients receive accurate, efficient, and satisfactory delivery of meals and other nutrition. Will be direct liaison, in regards to patient satisfaction, in the Nutrition and Food Services department. This position also assists higher-level personnel in preparing and maintaining a clean work area. Work is routinely reviewed for adherence to sanitary standards and completion of assignments.

Responsibilities

• Delivers food trays, nourishments, and snack to patients in a timely manner.
• Assists with tray preparation during meal service hours.
• Adheres to all safety, sanitation, health, and privacy standards required by the department.
• Carries items from storeroom and coolers to workstations, and transfers food and equipment items to appropriate storage areas.
• Communicates with patients regarding meal tickets, accuracy, and other relevant information
• Maintains compliance with JCAHO, State Health Department, and OSHA regarding on-going required job training and health standards.
• Uses proper protocol, including wearing required PPE and hand sanitation, to prevent contamination.
• Maintains clean work areas and equipment utilized during shift.
• Aids in dirty tray removal and retrieval, as needed.
• Performs quality assurance activities, such as monitoring satisfaction surveys.
• Maintains a professional demeanor when interacting with all patients, visitors, and staff.

Preferences

• Current ServSafe certification
• Previous experience in similar roles or in a hospital setting
• Please also note that this position requires approximately95% of the workday to be spent walking and moving throughout the facility, so prefer candidates that are prepared for a highly active role and able to meet the physical demands of the position.
