Dietary Manager (Healthcare)

Position summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. The Dietary Manager actively prepares meals and manages the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, preparation, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation, in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction with efficient, cost-effective management that meets and exceeds expectations. They also assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, assign duties, and direct all food service department employees, with full accountability for dining services.
  2. Ensure equipment is maintained and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, addressing noncompliance promptly.
  3. Maintain food costs within budget and enforce strict inventory control.
  4. Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion in decision-making.
  5. Interview, recommend hiring, and orient new staff.
  6. Schedule staff, considering requests and operational needs, exercising discretion and judgment.
  7. Track attendance and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  8. Communicate and enforce policies related to employee conduct, safety, sanitation, and other HR policies, including disciplinary measures.
  9. Evaluate staff performance and recommend changes to employment terms as needed.
  10. Conduct dietary QA audits quarterly.
  11. Plan community and individual resident menus in coordination with medical staff and primary care providers. Organize special events as needed.
  12. Ensure meals are prepared according to menus and recipes, maintaining nutritional value and presentation. Provide snacks for residents with dietary needs.
  13. Supervise proper storage, defrosting, and preparation of food, ensuring safety and sanitation.
  14. Ensure excellent customer service is provided by all employees to residents and visitors.
  15. Perform duties courteously and professionally, prioritizing resident safety and satisfaction.
  16. Greet visitors warmly, including residents' families, prospective residents, referral sources, vendors, and regulators.
  17. Answer phones professionally, adhering to community standards.
  18. Ensure compliance with regulations regarding residents' rights.
  19. Ensure employees attend required training sessions and provide in-service trainings as needed.
  20. Attend training sessions as directed by supervisors.
