Position Summary:
The Dietary Manager is a working manager role responsible for both direct food service activities and overall department leadership. This position actively participates in daily food preparation and service while planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of the Dietary Department. The Dietary Manager ensures high-quality nutritional services are provided to patients, employees, and visitors in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Dietary Manager assures that quality nutritional services are provided daily, and that the department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
Essential Job Functions:
· Actively participate in food preparation, cooking, and service during the work week, ensuring high quality and safe food handling practices.
· Monitor and maintain department policies, procedures, and goals.
· Oversee equipment, supplies, and materials to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with standards.
· Procure food and supplies, manage food storage and preparation, and maintain sanitation practices.
· Supervise food services for patients, employees, and visitors, ensuring quality nutrition services.
o Plan menus, including therapeutic and specialty diets, following dietary guidelines and patient needs.
o Plan and organize food service for external events such as employee picnics and holiday parties.
· Maintain an inventory management system, complete inventory counts, and submit annual reports.
· Foster a positive work environment by supporting employee recognition and retention efforts.
· Address employee relations issues appropriately and in a timely manner.
· Oversee ongoing training for department staff.
· Monitor and ensure compliance with required licenses and certifications.
· Manage department financial operations, including budgeting, expense tracking, and vendor negotiations.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalent required.
· Prior dietary management or food service leadership experience preferred, especially in a healthcare or senior living setting.
· Experience working in a small team or rural facility environment preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of food service operations, sanitation standards, and dietary regulations.
· Ability to cook and manage meal service while supervising staff activities.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to work positively with staff, leadership, patients, and visitors.
· Ability to problem-solve quickly and adjust priorities in a dynamic, small-facility environment.
· Ability to build a positive and productive work culture focused on teamwork, quality service, and safety.
