Job summary

Mitchell Care & Rehab Center in McAlester, OK is seeking a Dietary Cook to support our resident meals with quality, safety, and compassion. You will prepare meats, vegetables, and soups according to planned menus and resident diet orders.

Responsibilities include ordering ingredients, maintaining inventory, training dietary staff, and ensuring infection prevention practices while providing warm, timely meals to residents in a caring environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• 1 year of kitchen or dietary experience preferred.
• Must maintain a working email and phone number for employer communication.

• Determine types and quantities of meats, vegetables, and soups to be prepared by reviewing planned menus and are timely.
• Submit ingredient orders to Dietary Supervisor.
• Assist in establishment and maintenance of perpetual supplies inventory, and notifies Dietary Supervisor of shortages or discrepancies.
• Supervise dietary workers when washing, trimming, or preparing food.
• Prepare meals according to menu combinations and resident diet orders and ensure safety and hygiene.

Shift Time Availability:

• Hours: 4:30am-11:30am
• Hours: 11:30am-8:00pm

Essential Functions of Dietary Cook:

• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
• Determine types and quantities of meats, vegetables, and soups to be prepared by reviewing planned menus and are timely
• Determine the amount of foods needed to meet weekly menus and submit order to Dietary Supervisor
• Assist in establishment and maintenance of perpetual supplies inventory, and notifies Dietary Supervisor of shortages or discrepancies
• Consult with Dietary Supervisor regarding use of left-overs, stores, and labels accordingly
• Consult registered dietitian on modified diets
• Supervise dietary workers when washing, trimming, or preparing food
• Assist in training, orientation, and supervisor of newly hired dietary staff
• Measure and mix ingredient according to approved recipes, using blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, etc.
• Cook meat, fish, and fowl in a variety of ways such as: baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming as well as carve into individual servings according to menu combinations and resident diet orders
• Test food temperatures
• Prepare special nourishment and supplements as instructed by Dietary Supervisor, and identify with resident name and room number
• Always observe infection prevention and control practices
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen
• Perform all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors
• Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications of Dietary Cook:

• High School diploma or general equivalency is preferred
• 1 year of experience is preferred
