Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health in Community Medical Center, New Jersey, seeks a Diet Assistant to support the dietary-management team. You will collect patient menus, correct menus as needed, maintain diet records, and ensure patients receive the meals they chose while following regulatory requirements.

Required: a high school diploma or equivalent; preferred Dietetic Assistant/Technician training, and food service experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Preferred: Graduate of Dietetic Assistant/Technician Program.
• Preferred: One year food service experience.
• Preferred: Basic knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephone taking messages and relaying information as necessary using proper etiquette.
• Assists patients with menus, making all efforts necessary to see that patient receives his/her choice.
• Conducts point of service on assigned floors in a timely manner.
• Corrects modified menus, at patient bedside, and with patient concurrence whenever possible.
• Maintains inventory of menus and supplies.
• Monitors the effects of dietary service through meal rounds.
• Provides basic diet information to patients on diets.
