Job summary

Sylvan Shores Health & Wellness in La Porte, TX is seeking a Dietary Aide to support the community kitchen operations. The role involves meal preparation, serving in the dining area, and assisting with tray setup and sanitation to ensure smooth kitchen flow.

The position is full-time with a 4 on / 2 off rotation. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, vacation and holidays, life insurance, disability coverage, and a 401(k) match. Prior nursing home food service is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare therapeutic desserts and salads as required.
• Serve meals in the health center pantries.
• Set up tables in dining rooms and clear after meals.
• Transport hot and cold foods to and from pantries.
• Maintain sanitation and stock in coffee and juice stations.
• Assist with tray assembly and meal distribution as per diet orders.

The Job

The dietary aide supports the effective operation of the community’s kitchen by maintaining properly sanitized and asufficientstock of dishes and assist the cook with meal prep to ensure the orderly flow of the kitchen systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepares therapeutic desserts and salads as required
• Serves meals in the health center pantries
• Sets up tables in the health center dining room(s) and breaks them down after the meals
• Transports hot and cold foods to and from the health center pantries
• Transports all required non-food items to and from the health center pantries
• Washes silver, glass, china in dish machines in pantries as per regulation
• Provides health center snacks and supplements per diet orders
• Maintains stock and sanitation levels in coffee and juice machines in dining rooms
• Sets tables and maintains work stations in proper order
• Takes order, provides service and requested items both graciously and courteously
• Clears dishes from tables during and after meal service
• Answers pertinent questions about menu items
• Ensures that orders match Physician’s diet orders

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED a plus
• Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, perform simple arithmetic, and understand measurements and conversions
• Previous experience in nursing home food service preferred, but not required
• Ability to plan, organize and set up trays and plates in accordance with diet orders and interpret specifications and standards
• Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisor and peers. Requires empathy for the elderly
