Job summary

San Marcos Treatment Center in Central Texas is seeking a dedicated food service helper for the hospital dietary program. You will wash dishes, serve meals to patients and staff, and assist cooks with meal preparation while ensuring diets are met and portions are correct.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Serv Safe and Food Handlers certification, and at least basic English reading/writing skills; prior hospital dietary experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

San Marcos Treatment Center, a 212-bed, seclusion free, psychiatric residential treatment facility located between Austin and San Antonio in the heart of Central Texas! San Marcos spreads across 65-acres with an abundance of trees and wildlife. We have 13 unique living units separated by gender, age, and development levels with two swimming pools, two gymnasiums, sports court, playing fields, ropes course, canteen, social area, and a healing trail. We provide 24-hour psychiatric care to girls and boys ages 6 to 17 with customized therapeutic approaches and intensive behavioral programs teach young patients to moderate their behavior, manage emotions and improve social functioning.

The Main Responsibilities For The Job Are As Follows
  • Responsible for dishwashing and serving food in the cafeteria to patients and employees.
  • Assure patient diets are met and all patients receive the appropriate meal.
  • Assists cooks following dietary recipes and menus to aide in the preparation and portioning of meals.
  • Monitors the quality and temperature of all food in the serving line during each meal.
  • Also responsible for maintaining a sanitary environment assuring all appropriate procedures are followed at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Licensure/Certification: Serv Safe and Food Handlers Certification required.

Experience: 1 year of relatable experience preferred.

Skills: Food, restaurant, or institutional service experience is required, of which hospital dietary department experience is preferred. The ability to read and write in English.

Physical Requirements: Frequent (>50%) standing and walking, lifting/carrying, bending/stooping, and using arm muscles for extended periods. Intermittent (25-49%) sitting, twisting, pushing/pulling, climbing (ascending/descending stairs or ladders), and using leg or muscles for extended periods. Frequent carrying of weights 2-20 pounds, infrequent carrying of weights greater than 20 pounds.
