Job summary

The Carolinas Alliance for Residential Excellence in Virginia Beach is seeking a kitchen aide to support meal preparation and service for residents under the guidance of a certified dietician. You will assist with pre-prepared items, dietary modifications as ordered, and ensure proper food handling under close supervision.

This role requires reading and writing ability, lifting up to 20 lbs, and standing for long periods.

Qualifications

• Must be able to bend, kneel, climb a step stool, and reach.
• ServeSafe certification within the last two years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing meals as scheduled on dietary menus.
• Help prepare items that can be made in advance under supervision.
• Assist in preparing special or modified diets as ordered.
• Assist in meal service as directed by the Dietary Technician.
• Ensure foods are stored and served at proper temperatures.
• Check coolers for dated items and dispose of outdated products.
• Rotate stock to manage food inventory as directed.
• Prepare snacks for service at regular intervals.
• Respect resident rights while preparing and serving meals.
• Follow health, safety, and environmental health regulations.
• Clean kitchen and dining areas and related equipment.
• Assist with floor cleaning in kitchen and dining areas.
• Cooperate with dietary staff and administration.
• Follow emergency plans and participate in required training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Description

1. To assist in preparing meals as scheduled on the dietary menus prepared by a certified dietician.
2. Help to prepare items that can be made in advance under the direction of the dietary technician, such as salads, baked goods, and gelatin.
3. To assist in preparing special or modified diets as ordered on the dietary menus and in accordance with the diet ordered for each resident.
4. To assist in meal service as directed by the Dietary Technician.
5. Assure that foods are stored and served at appropriate temperatures.
6. Check coolers for dated items, making sure all items are labeled correctly, and dispose of them if out-dated.
7. Help to manage food inventory by rotating stock, as directed by the dietary technician.
8. To assist in preparing snacks as ordered on the dietary menu for service by aides three times per day.
9. Respect all resident rights while preparing and serving meals.
10. Abide by the rules and regulations set by the department of health and human services and the department of environmental health.
11. To assist with cleaning all kitchen and dining room areas, and special assigned cleaning tasks as instructed by the dietary technician.
12. Make sure that all cooking materials and resident dinnerware is cleaned after each meal, and that the cleaning equipment is working properly.
13. Assist in cleaning floors in kitchen and dining room area.
14. Cooperate with other staff members, especially the dietary technician.
15. Understand and comply with all safety policy and procedures and become familiar with emergency plans within the facility
16. Participate in job-related training activities which are required by the Administration.
17. Perform other job-related duties that are delegated by the supervisor and/or Administration.
