Position Summary

The Dietary Aide performs designated work and cleaning routines for the Dietary Department and is accountable to the Dietary Manager. In the absence of the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide is accountable to the Cook.

Qualifications for a Dietary Aide

• High School graduate and previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments.
• Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
• Numerical accountability for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals; good motor coordination and manual dexterity for preparing food, serving trays, handling dishes, and operating equipment.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including during emergencies; patience and tolerance towards staff, residents, and family members.

Duties of a Dietary Aide

• Perform work routines using dietary utensils, supplies, and equipment as assigned.
• Assist the cook in meal preparation and service.
• Meet scheduled meal and snack times.
• Follow federal and state long-term care regulations and department policies.
• Perform scheduled cleaning duties.
• Assist in arranging tray cards, loading food carts, and serving meals.
• Set up dining areas and serve residents.
• Wash and store dishes.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Report supply and equipment needs, damages, unsafe conditions, and vermin conducive environments.
• Assist in receiving and storing food supplies.
• Understand and follow fire and disaster plans during drills and emergencies.

Follow facility infection control policies. Ensure residents are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect. Report grievances, maintain HIPAA compliance, accept duties cooperatively, and uphold sanitation and safety standards.
