Job summary

Pikes Peak Post Acute in New York, NY is seeking a Dietary Aide to support daily meal service in a fast-paced kitchen. You will learn the standard food service routines, prepare nourishments, and assist with serving meals while keeping dishwashing and cleaning tasks up to standard.

The role requires basic education, ability to read procedures, and physical stamina for standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other duties. A food handlers’ certificate is required and accommodations may be available.

Qualifications

• Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
• Ability to solve practical problems from written or schedule instructions.
• Must obtain and maintain a food handlers’ certificate.

General Purpose: The dietary aide assignments are determined by the needs based on the activity of the shift. The aide reports to the Cook and Dietary supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Must be able to learn the food service routine within a short period.
• Set up meal trays.
• Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
• Assist with serving the different meals.
• Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of shift.
• Observe water temperatures of the dishwasher during dishwashing cycles.
• Operate the dishwasher.
• Prepare nourishments and snacks.
• Sweep and mop kitchen.
• Carry out trash and garbage.
• Put groceries away in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
• Leave the kitchen clean and sanitary and be of assistance when called upon by the cook or dietary supervisor.
• Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
• Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
• Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
• Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel in all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, read and follow recipes, and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handlers’ certificate.
• Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, tasting, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, as required; requires good visual perception and ability to adjust focus.

Salary

Full Wage Range: $17.15–$20.00 per hour depending on experience and education. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
