Overview

Job Summary: The Diet Technician 2 provides patients on a specialized diet program the opportunity to select menu items, ensuring that nutritional restrictions and food preferences have been met. Participates in training newly hired Diet Office staff. Attends meetings, in-services and area-specific meetings as required. Participates in weekend and holiday rotation. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience

Associate's Degree in Dietetic Technology required. Bachelor's Degree in Food or Nutrition preferred. Minimum one year prior customer service or diet office experience setting highly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Broad knowledge of nutritional food values, meal planning and therapeutic menu processes. Handling/gripping, speed movements, fine dexterity, hearing, writing and speaking skills necessary for the job. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use calculator, computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate and troubleshoot basic office and patient care equipment required for the position; perform required patient care activities related to the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; display a positive and professional demeanor to patients, family members, and co-workers, and consistently enforce the facility's policies; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Licensures and Certifications

Registered Diet Technician (DTR) certification required. Riverside County Food Service Handler Card required. ServSafe Certification preferred.
