Job summary

U.S. Multimodal Group is hiring a mechanic in La Porte, TX to inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain trucks and commercial vehicles. You will ensure safe, compliant operation and maximize fleet performance while handling engines, brakes and other critical systems.

Work hours are Monday through Friday with some weekend shifts. A strong background in diesel technology and DOT rules, plus hands-on diagnostic tool use, is required for this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical certification preferred.
• 2 years' experience with overall heavy-duty truck diagnostics.
• Proven experience as a truck or diesel mechanic.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle systems.
• Ability to operate diagnostic software and tools.
• Understanding of safety procedures and DOT regulations.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred in some roles.
• Must have adequate tools and air-tools up to 3/4.
• Ability to interact professionally with drivers and managers.
• Ability to lead local repair/service vendors and parts vendors.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and preventive service on trucks.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools.
• Address driver concerns, diagnose and repair DOC/DPF issues, brakes and more.
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with DOT standards.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation of repairs.
• Test drive vehicles to ensure proper operation after repairs.
• Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs as needed.
• Keep work area clean, organized and compliant with safety regulations.
• Stay updated on industry trends and repair techniques.
• Some weekend work, light trailer repair; tire replacement program.
