Job summary

Penske Truck Leasing in Springfield, OH is seeking a skilled automotive technician to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on a diverse fleet. You’ll work second shift and use Penske’s tools to diagnose and service vehicles, helping customers stay on the road.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
  • 1–2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions; strong safety mindset.
  • DOT/OSHA safety compliance and proper PPE usage.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers.
  • Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as tire replacement or rotation, lubrication, component replacement, and basic electrical and cooling system repairs on gas and diesel vehicles.
  • Partner with managers to learn new skills through Penske’s technician training and hands-on coaching.
  • Work on additional projects and tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Pay: $23.00 Per Hour

2nd Shift Premium: $2.50 Per Hour

Weekend Shift Premium: $2.50 Per Hour

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and 1‑2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Problem‑solving ability and comfort using tools
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Team‑player who can work independently when necessary
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficiency in following instructions, guidelines, rules, and regulations established by Penske management
  • Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies (including proper tool use, PPE, machine guarding, and best safety practices)
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function
  • DOT‑regulated driving experience: Must maintain a current driver qualification file, complete annual MVR checks, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records. CDL holders must undergo DOT drug screening and FMCSA Clearinghouse review as required.
  • Willingness to work the required schedule, travel for training, and pass background checks, drug screen, and physical as mandated by the Department of Transportation
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and extended sitting during the work period
  • Use of hands daily to grasp, reach, touch, handle, and operate tools or controls
  • Ability to work safely at heights using ladders and elevated platforms
  • Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
  • Capacity to see and hear to navigate a workplace with frequent large‑truck traffic
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs (23kg) and occasionally up to 100lbs (45kg); ability to push or pull truck tires exceeding 100 pounds
