Job summary

Mid Columbia Bus Company Inc. is seeking a full-time Diesel Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair school buses and other company vehicles in Sandpoint, ID. You will perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

You will document work, keep a clean workspace, collaborate with fellow technicians and supervisors, and communicate vehicle status clearly to operations staff.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in vehicle maintenance and repair for diesel-powered buses.
• Ability to perform comprehensive preventive maintenance for safety and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using diagnostic tools and service manuals.
• Customer service skills to communicate with drivers, dispatch, and management.
• Experience as a diesel or automotive technician, preferably in fleet or commercial environments.
• Knowledge of DOT and school transportation safety standards is highly beneficial.
• Ability to lift and move heavy parts and work in various shop and outdoor conditions.
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical training or certifications (e.g., ASE) are a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to safety.

Role Description

This full-time, on-site Diesel Technician role is based in Sandpoint, ID. The Diesel Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing school buses and other company vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation. Daily tasks include performing routine and preventive maintenance, conducting troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical systems, and completing maintenance and repair work in accordance with company and regulatory standards. The role also involves documenting work performed, maintaining a clean and organized work area, collaborating with other technicians and supervisors, and communicating clearly with operations staff regarding vehicle status and repair needs.
