Job summary

First Student is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician for our NH Seacoast shop serving SAU 90, SAU 21, and SAU 50. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing school buses to ensure safety and reliability, with a Monday–Friday 5:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

schedule and wages $34.00–$36.00 per hour per the union contract. The position offers year-round, full-time work, company-paid ASE testing and CDL training, tool and boot allowances, and a path to advancement across the United States and Canada.

Qualifications

  • Five years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience.
  • Formal diesel or automotive technical-school education may be considered as part of experience.
  • Strong vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and major mechanical repairs.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • CDL Class B or ability to obtain one within 60 days; company-paid training.
  • Possession of a mechanic's tool set sufficient to complete duties.
  • Willingness to participate in ASE certification program.
  • Strong computer and maintenance-documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure buses and fleet vehicles are properly maintained and safe for passengers.
  • Diagnose and complete all phases of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Repair and inspect braking systems.
  • Complete engine tune-ups and repairs.
  • Service suspensions, drivetrains, transmissions, and clutches.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services and safety inspections.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and performance-related concerns.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.
  • Assist with emergency road-service repairs when needed.
  • Follow all company, state, federal, and DOT safety requirements.

About The Diesel Technician Position

As a Diesel Technician with First Student, you will maintain and repair school buses to help ensure the safety and reliability of our fleet.


Key Responsibilities


  • Ensure buses and other fleet vehicles are properly maintained and safe for passengers

  • Diagnose and complete all phases of vehicle maintenance and repair

  • Repair and inspect braking systems

  • Complete engine tune-ups and repairs

  • Service suspensions, drivetrains, transmissions, and clutches

  • Perform preventive maintenance services, safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections

  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and performance-related concerns

  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately

  • Assist with emergency road-service repairs when needed

  • Follow all company, state, federal, and DOT safety requirements


Diesel Technician Qualifications


  • At least five years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience

  • Formal diesel or automotive technical-school education may be considered as part of the candidate's overall experience

  • Strong vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills

  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and major mechanical repairs

  • Valid driver's license required

  • CDL Class B or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment; company-paid training is provided

  • Possession of a mechanic's tool set sufficient to complete assigned duties

  • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program

  • Strong computer and maintenance-documentation skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
