Job Overview

Veit is seeking a Diesel Technician to complete repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy‑duty trucks and trailers, and assist in heavy equipment repairs. Location: Duluth, MN.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on trucks and trailers.
• Diagnose engine mechanical and fuel‑system issues on trucks, including engines, drivetrain components, hydraulic systems, air and electric systems.
• Use tools such as engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Utilize computer systems to diagnose issues with electronic engines.
• Repair hydraulic systems and 12‑volt DC electrical systems on trucks.
• Fabricate and repair equipment using welding equipment.
• Complete technician work on heavy equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe shop environment.
• Communicate status and safety issues to supervisor.
• Participate in additional projects or duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of heavy‑duty truck components.
• Experience using diagnostic software and welding experience.
• Ability to adhere to all safety rules, policies, and regulations.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Independent work capability with sound repair judgment.
• Willingness to join the union (Local 49).
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one.
• Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and motor vehicle record requirements.

Physical Demands

The duties often require sitting, standing, walking, bending knees, stretching arms, stooping, kneeling, talking, and hearing. Frequently lifts or moves up to 75 pounds and works in various physical positions while on equipment.

Work Environment

Work occurs in a typical shop environment. Employees may work alone or with others, and are often exposed to moving machinery, odors, dust, loud noises, and variable weather (rain, snow, wind, cold, heat).
